110mm T36E1 Coiled case

#1

A collector I know in the USA has this case. It is made from coiled steel.

The case length is 452mm, and rim diameter is 125mm.

Is there any information known on the gun it was designed for?

The headstamp is:

110 MM T36E1

MAC 1952

Thanks for any replies.

Falcon, this case type was used in the 110 mm T143 howitzer, an experimental model to improve the 105 mm M2A1 howitzer from WWII. The identification plate in the pictures posted by Brian should be wrong, as T74 was the designation of the carriage, not the gun. Regards, Fede.

Fede,

Thanks for the correction. Do you know anything about a T195 110mm / 105mm Self-Propelled Howitzer (1958)?

Brian, the 105 mm T195 was a prototype of what was later adopted as the well known 105 mm M108 (T195E1). As I understand the 110 mm caliber was proposed for the T195 in 1953 but it was later discarded. In 1958, when the first prototype was completed, the chosen caliber was 105 mm.
