15 mm Flares Russian

A friend asked if I knew anything (I don’t) about a box of Russian 15mm flares shown in a completed auction on GunBroker listing: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/787150149

Pictures from the auction

Can anyone provide information on these flares?

Thanks,

Brian

Brian, this is regular issue for survival kits and related. To be used with the flare pens.
Different signal colors do exist and the aluminum case bodies do exist in different colors too.

Also made/sold as “hunter’s signal” but then marked accordingly.
Some even made it out as self defense means with rubber bullets or CS loads.

Alex & Pete,

Great information and photos! Thank you very much.

So these flares were originally developed for military use (survival kits) and were latter offered to civilians?

Brian

Pete, your’s should be the military version.

Brian, basically yes.

As can be seen some have tactile markings (ribs on case side) and some do not.

The earlier ones appear to have colored cases.

Are those rimfire or centerfire ctrgs used as the primer?

Ole

I can add that the manufacturer is the Krasnozavodsk Chemical Factory (11). In early boxes this is not indicated, but during 1963 the lot code was changed and started with “11”. Soon after, it was changed again to show their logo.
