20x102mm Vulcan dummy "...20mm dummy ... M51A2 LC-62-001"

Any meaning to 3 dots before and after “20mm dummy”? Also, how was this indented lettering applied? The headstamp is flat but these “20mm dummy M51A2” letters are on a curved surface.

I’m not sure, but my guess is most likely the same method Col. Sam Colt used to engrave the cylinders on his revolver, it was rolled it on.

Almost certainly rolled on … the marking die would be flat and the item to be marked would pass by it whilst turning. At a guess, the dots would be there to “catch” the item being marked as a lead in and out of the process, to ensure the marking is crisply made.

Wow, so much trouble and then the lot number is just painted on!!! Why not to paint the whole thing?

Vlad, “durable” is the key-word here.
