.22 Le-Port Rimfire

#1

Firstly, let me say hello. I’m a long term collector of ammunition, especially early transitional and auto pistol rounds.
I recently aquired a .22 round described as a “Le-Port Rimfire”. I can’t find any reference on the internet. It looks like a 22 long rifle except the case is about 1.155 inches long. It has a two part case, brass at the base, then copper. The headstamp, two intertwined "G"s, indicates Gevelot & Gaupillat of Paris as the maker.
Any one got any ideas on what it was for?

Tim,

check this out:

municion.org/22/22.htm

the description should have been: “Longue portée” which means long range I believe.
