.22 long rifle action test

Have two turned solid brass .22 long rifle with D headstamp. Picked it out of a dime box. Are they action test rounds? One has 3 round firing pin strikes and a square strike the other is unmarked.

They do sound like snap caps. You don’t want to release the spring on a bolt action .22 without something under the pin otherwise the pin may shatter against the face of the breech. If you leave the rifle cocked the spring could go weak.

Modern ones are usually red plastic so it would be interesting to put a date on these.

Vince, they are solid turned brass. Probably turned on a automatic screw machine with a round nose “bullet” turned all as one piece and have a D stamped in the head just like a headstamp. Dimensions are within standards for a long rifle cartridge.
