Can anyone help me find information on the 280 Roosevelt (maybe aka 280 Ross experimental) ?? Many thanks.
Quoting from BRITISH SPORTING RIFLE CARTRIDGES by BILL FLEMING:
The .280 Ross ( .280 Roosevelt ) was introduced in 1906
Was made by Eley in two bullet weights of, 160 and 180 grns.
Overall length of 3.300", case length of, 2.615"
Rim dia. .484 to . 487 " rim thickness of .057 pri. dia. .197
Ctg. base dia., .466-.467 shoulder of .415 case mouth .312 to .315
Bul.dia. .284-.286 M. Rea
There is one known rifle in this calibre. It was Charles Ross first attempt at a .280 and soon abandoned for the .280 Ross. Looks like it was based on a
30-03 case with a semi rim.
Thank you both for the replies. They are a big help. Regards,
