I have 20 or so 30-40 Krag cartridges with paper bullets. Not sure if the primers are functional. The “powder” is granular and cream colored. Headstamps vary; F,10,00 and F,A. 20.03 are two examples. What was this round used for?
Swede–They are the standard Blank for the .30-40 Krag.
The “official” designation is M1896 Blank, as these were introduced in 1896. The propelling powder most frequently used was EC Blank powder. The paper bullet also contains a powder charge, designed to “pop” as the paper bullet leaves the muzzle, thereby creating more noise and breaking up the paper so as not to create a personnel hazard downrange.
