Am I correct that “8” stands for an unknown cartridge provider?
Yes, there was a Period in the early 1900s, and before, when Cartridge Case suppliers were “Number coded”, whilst the cases were then filled at Royal Laboratories, Woolwich Arsenal (London).
This Making of cases for future filling was a common practice through-out the European and American Ammunition Industries and customer Gov’ts at the time.
