.303 Brit charger "G II"

I think it is “G” on it. Any idea why it is so beat up? Was it misfed or something?

It just looks like pitting from rust to me.
Badly stored, or dug up somewhere, maybe.

The G indicates it was made by Greenwood and Batley. I agree with Jack’s assessment of condition.

I have a .303 charger picked up about 1920 in northern France or Belgium and it’s far rustier than this one. Some environments are much more antagonistic to metal objects than others. Jack
