37x94R Hotchkiss "Vickers Sons & Maxim"

Neat round. There is a big V at the projectile base (Vickers?). What is “PA” on the projectile side and “U” the explosive plug at the top? I assume “99” is 1899? Is the projectile correct to the cartridge?

I seem to remember that these projectiles were made on contract by a company in Spain. Unfortunately I can’t be certain on this.

PA is the initials for Placencia de las Armas, located in northern Spain and was a Vickers & Armstrong ammunition factory in 1897, until 1925.

The Placencia de las Armas Co. Ld. was established in 1887 as a British company with a London address, and in 1897 the factory located in Spain became a subsidiary of Vickers Sons and Maxim Ld. After 1927 it continued under the ownership of Vickers-Armstrong Ld. until the outbreak of the civil war in 1936.
