4.9 x 45 German

#1

From left to right
Brass case, conical bullet, DAG 4.9 x 45
Brass case, ogival bullet, DAG 4.9 x 45

  1. What is the difference between the two bullets
  2. Which one is the scartest ?
    Thanks

Hi JP,

My understanding is that these rounds were used to develop projectiles for the German caseless cartridge. There are many variations.

I don’t know the exact difference between the 2, but would say that round #1 is more scarce (because I don’t have this variation!!)

Thanks Paul.
I understand your sentence as :

No gun chamber for this round, only test barrels.

Right ?

JP, I had a quick look through Wolfgang Seel’s The G11 Story. There was at least a weapon developed for the 4.3 x 45 round (a modified HK 33), but nothing shown for the 4.7mm or 4.9mm series. My guess is that they were used only in test fixtures.
