Does anyone have a idea from which weapon the 5×57 round come from. I found a shell in the woods and I think its some type of hunting rifle but I’m not sure. Thanks you
A case length of 57 mm is very, very large for a 5 mm bullet. The bullet would be extremely fast, making barrel life short and metal fouling a real problem. Not to mention turning the meat along the bullet path into pulp: not what a hunter usually wants.
Can you show a photo of the case (side view and headstamp)?
May be a 5,7 x 57 one of the recognised German Hunting calibres…between .22/250 and .220 Swift.
