Are the “O” markings at 3:00 and 9:00 simply symbols or are they zeros to denote 1900?
It is a symbol (certainly less frequent than the star).
The civil cartridges of SFM are never dated.
Thank you. Is it possible to date this cartridge by the use of the “O” symbol?
To my knowledge, it is not possible.
I have in my collection, a variant of the 6,5 mm Daudeteau that has, for an unknown reason, the “O” with a cross inside, like a NATO symbol !
Many years too early! Why was a plus in a circle chosen for the meets NATO Spec symbol on ammunition?
Very interesting, Michel. Perhaps a kind of internal factory dating system?
