7.62 x 63 (30-06) duplex or triplex

From left to right:
Brass case, short pointed bullet , WRA 57
Brass case, short pointed bullet, red tip, WRA 56

  1. Are they Duplex or Triplex ?
  2. What is the red tip one ? A tracer ?

thanks
JP

You cannot tell from external appearance whether these are duplex or triplex - only by xray. Not even weighing them will help. The red tip was to mark a special lot and it is not a tracer. Color tips on these rounds included dark blue and black, as well as the red you have on your photo.

Thanks again Chris

The weight of the cartridge may be a sign

  • 60 grains x 3 = 180 grains
  • 96 grains x 2 = 192 grains
