A Cal .50 What-Iz-It

This was on Ward’s last auction. LC 42 case, appears unfired. Hollow copper .680" diameter “bullet” that is a friction fit over the case mouth. Primer has been replaced by a copper spring-loaded plunger that does not seem to do anything.

Anybody have a guess as to what this might be?

Never saw one, but maybe something like a Hollifield Dotter? No idea how or why it would be used.

Ray, it looks like an incomplete novelty lighter to me. The overdimensioned metal cap is typical of these.
