A reject WWII box of WCC made 7.92x57 for China

#1

I was told the following provenance when I got this box at Williamsport:
US decided to supply Nationalist forces in China with ammo in early 1940’s. Chinese sent an over zealous inspector who disqualified many rounds straight from production line. Western workers put the rejects into special boxes instead of junking them. This is one of those boxes.
May anyone add to this story or correct me?
Also, I am including a related topic link which has Phil Butler’s wonderful scans of original boxes with Chinese characters. I think I see those characters on the reverse of my box’s label (which used to be an obverse on the original boxes).
