An interesting 30-40 KRAG Military Round

Evening Folks,

I picked up this 30-40 KRAG round today out of a junk box. Interesting in that it is very late, has the monel style primer typically used on sub-caliber rounds and has a pointed lead projectile. I could not find anything like on in HW& S Vol I. Any one have any thoughts on this one?

Dave – I have an apparently identical loading that’s dated 1931. I was never able to find any info about it when I was collecting all military rifle and MG cartridges.

The primer is a flat nickled primer…not Monel…these cases were available as primed empties back in the day…appears to me to be somebody’s handload…

Thanks, Randy. I kind of thought that might be the case.
