AOC 1340 .303 - Suez design 453?

A while ago I acquired a round of .303 ball headstamped “AOC 1340” made by BPD as a clandestine load for Egypt.

The pervious owner had written “.303 Suez Design 453” on thie side. Does anyone have any idea what this meant?

Some quantities of this ammo were brought back from the Egyptian Canal Zone by French and British paratroopers after the aborted Suez expedition. This maybe the reason for this designation. Just a guess, anyway…

I had heard that it came back from the Suez Crisis.

There is far too much of it around in the UK for it to all have been bought back by soldiers, it must have been sold as shooting ammo or at least a sizeable batch imported.
