What is interesting about the projectile are the two rotating bands. The one on the base is solid (brass?), the one further up on the body of the projectile is hollow cored. Depending how deep the lands of the rifling were, it seems that the rifling would cut the body of the projectile and perhaps weaken it to where, when it left the bore of the gun, the body would fly apart releasing the balls like a shotgun?
It would be an anti-personnel round. To repel borders?
