I think that the vetaran who brought that shell from Korea didn’t know what he was doing too… a LIVE shell as war souvenir…what a stupid thing!
If it is the depicted projectile (here it seems the case) it is a German 76mm WWI mortar projectile with the safety plunger in place.
I wonder if ever anybody really found out if it was life or just a souvenir.
Without that the media would have no stories.

Narrow minded people do such measurement translations all the time.
In Europe we see on TV stuff like 12GA being called 12mm and .50 becomes 50mm all of a sudden…
Let alone ammo and gun related translations of specific terms…
