Does anyone know about military use of 87 gr projectiles in 5.56 cartridges loaded by Black Hills?
Black Hills produced a 5.56 x 45mm MK 262 MOD 1 Long Range (LR) 77gr OTM for the military and variations there of according to Ron Fuchs’ in his 5.56’.223 book.
Ron Fuchs’ in his book also lists a Black Hills round loaded with a Sierra MatchKing, 88 gr hp bullet, produced as a special project for Israel. The project never went anywhere.
I am familiar with 77gr, 70gr and some lighter loads, but I recently came across a military style carton marked 87gr of 30 rds in stripper clips.
Might be something new?!
Any chance you could post a picture of the box and cartridge?
I would be happy to, but I don’t have a photo sharing account.
Those might be loaded with PRL’s 87gr powdered tungsten OTM.
If you would like you can email the photo to me and I will post it for you.
