Candy Cartridges

#1

Well, now I have seen everything. Today, while visiting a Revolutionary War battlefield in Hubbardton, Vermont, I spotted an interesting item at the “gift shop”. Some enterprising soul in Canada (www.cyruswakefield.com) makes a candy product in the shape of a paper cartridge! It is a waxed paper tube with a gum-ball at the bottom to simulate the projectile and topped off with crystalized or powdered sugar of some sort to simulate the powder. I’m kicking myself for not purchasing one of these for the novelty of it! All things considered, it was a rather authentic rendering of a 1777 period cartridge! On another note, it was a somber and humbling experience to walk the hallowed ground of a battlefield where patriots and our British cousins gave their lives on 07-07-77 (1777).
