You can try brushing the headstamp with an old toothbrush for easier reading. I’m sure it won’t devalue a fired cartridge.

It looks like “P S* 14 35”, P is likely to be Polte, and the round is probably German from 1935. May we see the whole thing? S* likely means “brass”.

Correct, S* specifically means 72/28 Brass, a general improvement from the S67 brass of WWI (67/33).
Said to improve extraction from high r.o.f MGs and Aircraft guns.
