Good day, I went hunting over the past weekend in Colesberg in the Northern Cape province in South-Africa. I picked up a peculiar rifle bullet casing and would like to find out a bit more about the casing, calibre and who used it, it would be great, DWM 1914. Then I can provide feedback to the farm owner.
If this is a bottle-necked rifle cartridge case, 57mm in length, I would suggest a 7 x 57mm Mauser case made by Deutsche Waffen u. Munitionsfabriken, Karlsruhe, Germany in 1914.
Others more well versed in history might be able to tell you more about the weapon that fired it and when, there in S.A.
Hello Baz and welcome to this Forum
It could be useful to give dimensions of the case and another picture of the side of the case.
Germany 1914, without doubt. And 7 x 57…Yes, quite possible. This kind of headstamp is known on military ammunition made on contract.
Thank you for the replies. Dimensions to follow shortly. I can unfortunately not upload another picture the app does not allow me to.
