DWM Date Codes

#1

Upon request I have posted the list of known headstamp date codes used on mainly DWM sporting ammunition. Any comments or further info gladly received.

After WW1, DWM introduced codes on the hs of their sporting calibres to identify the year they were produced. These were two small capital letter DATE codes at 11 and 1o

Doesnt “K” at 3 and 9 O’Clock indicate the Karlsruhe factory? I have the following DWM headstamps:

9.5x57 Mannlicher-Schoenauer:

-DWM
K-----K
531

9.3x74R:

-DWM
K-----K
-474A

10.75x62 Mauser:

-DWM
K-----K
515

Falcon–The date code letters are much smaller, about 1/2 the normal size, and are placed at 11 and 1 o’clock. The K K for the Karsruhe Factory are normal size and placed at 9 and 3 o’clock.

So, as the letters are at 3 and 9 O’Clock my rounds were all made at Karlsruhe. They have the letters with serifs, according to an earlier thread these are pre-1926, so that would probably put them before when letter date code usage started anyway.

Falcon–That is correct.

I completely forgot about that! I must have just forgotten to make a note of it at the time.
