Ethan Allen & Co. Black Label Pinfire Box

#1

I finally picked up this Ethan Allen & Co. box I have been wanting for awhile.

It is not in the best shape, but the label is very readable which is good! And it is super rare and have not found a better one for sale yet!

The label says:

2 Dozen
METALLIC CARTRIDGES
FOR LEFAUCHEUX PISTOL
MANUFACTURED BY
ETHAN ALLEN & CO.,
WORCESTER, MASS.

It is kind of neat that they used 3 or 4 different fonts, with different type sizes as well.

It would have been made between 1865 when Allen & Wheelock became Ethan Allen & Co. to 1871 when Ethan Allen died and his sons-in-law changed the company’s name to Forehand & Wadsworth.

All of the 14 of the 24 cartridges left in the box have the same 3 ticks tool marking on the bottom from crimping the case.

Very nice, those bullets could almost cross over to the thread on the date for the first spitzer bullets.
