Here is another great find: a rare FAUNO 44.S&W.SPL. headstamp made c. 1929-30 by Patronenfabrik A.G. Lichtenwörth in Austria that was contracted by González y Rossell, a general hardware store and importer located in Buenos Aires. The word “Fauno” is Spanish for “Faun”, the mythological half human-half goat forest god, and was a trademark used by this company.
In spite of its headstamp, this example was factory made as .44 S&W Russian (24.5 mm case length). The same situation occurs with Fauno .38 S&W cartridges made from cases having a .38 S&W Special headstamp.
