George Roth 32 gauge shotshell or 500 BPE?

#1

Today I pick up what appears to be a brass 32 gauge shotshell in Ferlach headstamped GR ( monogram) / * / 1897 / *

It is a primed empty new sample, 60 mm long.
Here the basic dimensional data:

rim dia: .644" / 16.38 mm
rim thickness: 1.02 mm / .040"
base diam : .570" / 14.48 mm
mouth diam: .525" / 13.31 mm

rim thickness and mouth diam are smaller than my 32 ga sample made by Fiocchi

Is it really a shotshell or is it a German / Austrian standard of the past?

I also noted that there was the 60 mm long version of the 500 Black Powder Express made by George Roth in the past, and dimensional data of my sample match those of the 500 BPE case…

it is not a shotshell (the rim is too thin at first)

This appears to be a 12.7x60R D Express Roth case #240.

This is similar but not the same as the 500 English case. It has a thinner rim and a conical case with a strong taper at the base.

Thank you guys.

Yes, it has a very tapered portion at the base, such as other Express cartridges I have seen
