German 1880s 7,7x54R cartridge ( single shot type)

#1

Has anybody got any info or actual samples of this nearly unknown German early CF hunting cartridge.

I suspect it is a short version of the 7,7x60R (Mauser “A” base case) of the 1880s, but until I have confirmation as to its actual dimensions, will have to hope somebody has heard of it. None of the Good manuals ( Datig, Erlenmeier, COTW etc )mention it.

It has nothing to do with the Aussie Illegitimate 7,7x54R Lee Enfield of the 1940s and 50s ( cartridge shortened because of legal problems re “military ammo”.)

Maybe some of our more learned European colleagues can help me out ( I have an order for cases to fit an expensive German Stalking rifle)…it may also be a derivative of a Swiss or Schuetzen target cartridge?

TIA, and best regards.

Doc: Wouldn’t now be as good a time as any to ask for a chamber cast? Jack
