German ammo cap

THIS PHOTO SHOW A HEAVY GERMAN ARTILLERY PIECE. THE CASE IS SITTING ON THE TRAIL AND HAS A DOMED CAP ON IT. DOES ANYONE HAVE MORE INFO ABOUT THIS TYPE OF CAP?

I can not say for this one but the German Navy had these “Kartuschdeckel” (translates as something like “case lids”) on all of their separate loading ammuniton just without holes to likely keep it sealed. The Propellant sticks inside the cases were usually longer than the cases and likely needed some protection. These lids had to be removed before firing.
