GI 12 gauge shot shells?

#1

New member.

I have a question on some 12 gauge shells.
they are wrapped in foil lined paper and are printed
25 SHELLS SHOTGUN
12 GAUGE PAPER
SMOKELESS POWDER
No. 8 CHILLED SHOT
FOR USE IN HUNTING SMALL GAME
LOT RA 6710 (best I can tell, it is faded)

I am guessing they are US sho tshells packaged for the military.
Any idea how old they might be. The smokeless power note was interesting but I know the government can be slow to change.
Does the RA stand for Remington? October 1967?

Any information you can offer would be appreciated.

Hello Gary:

Yes, those are USGI shells. Can you post a pic of the box?

Take a look at this link at the US Militaria Forum which documents many examples of USGI shotgun ammunition.

usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ … ammunition

Hope that helps.

RA 6710 is the lot number, not a date. Although, I think it may be RA 5710 because the lot numbers assigned to Remington were 5000 to 5999.
