Headstamp on questionable .30/.50 cartridge

I’m fairly sure the .30/.50 pictured here is the result of the efforts of someone with time on their hands and access to a machine shop, but what really caught my interest is the odd appearance of the Lowell Ordnance Plant headstamp on the .50 cal case he used. I believe the headstamp was made using a 1943 bunter that was modified with the intent of ‘striking out’ the digits. The result is raised lines across the impressed digits, which I don’t think could have been accomplished after the headstamp was struck. Has anyone observed this before?
