Help to i.d. this cartridge .308 WIN

#1

I have never seen a packed like this, any help or info is welcome

#2

Gryrojet–That is certainly a strange packing for what appear to be plain Winchester Silver-tip’s. Obviously these are an after-market repack for some special purpose, most likely a survival kit or something like that.

#3

Strange that no caliber is given on the packing. Maybe a self made thing?

#4

Could this be a package for fire starters or some such that someone has later filled with cartridges ?

That would be my take on it. Plus I don’t think ammunition is classed as flammable. These things are usually pretty precisely labelled.

Also anybody got any comment on the date. Does it tie in with the ammo?

Does the fact that its dd/mm/yy have any significance. Thats the way we do it over here but I thought in the US they tended to favour mm/dd/ yy?

Way back in the mid-20th Century the US military used the dd/mm/yy format. It used to get me confused, but I have been out 50+ years now so I don’t know if they still use it or not.
