On another forum a someone stumbled across this Patent By W.B. Foulkes for the Hercules powder company Oct 1934. for what appears to be an encapsulated powder burning retardant. Has any one ever encountered this or know if it was ever utilized?

Sounds like a production nightmare to me.

A very interesting approach, and it would probably work were it not for the complications of economically-feasible manufacture. I’ve not heard of anything like this being put into practice for the intended purpose (which does not mean that it hasn’t been). A high percentage of patents, for many reasons, are never put into commercial use and this is likely one of those. Virtually anything that meets the legal definition of an “invention” can be patented, but being patented alone does not mean the invention is useful or practical.
