7.62x51 M993 armor piercing, shaped tungsten carbide ceramic core, in aluminum cup, jacketed by tombac (90% copper, 10%zinc), brass case, Berdan primer. Headstamp FFV/91, Karlsborg, Sweden.
Capable of penetrating a 7mm thick high hardness armor plate test at a distance of 500 meters from muzzle. Penetration is best at 600m. Replaced M855and M80 in 1992 by Soldier Enhancement Program. Uses m13 metal links for M60/M240 machine guns, or sigle rounds in M24 sniper. Goverment cost in 2005 - $2.61 ea.
