Clips made for the German armed forces in the last couple of years of the second war often bear, in addition to the manufacturer’s code and date, the letter “C”–is there any documentation of the meaning of this? Failing that, any interesting theories? JG
About 30 years ago one dealer was advertising these as being for the 7.9x33 Kurz, but this has since been disproved by them being found loaded with 7.9x57 rounds. If they ever did carry 7.9x33 it clearly wasn’t their only use.
Apart from that I haven’t heard any other likely theory.
John: Thanks for the response. My thoughts run along the line of indicating some characteristic of the metal from which the clip was made, or perhaps type of finish. Hmmm. JG
