New guy. Ammo ID requested

#1

Hello

Been lurking a while, but this is my first post. Among some various reloading equipment I recently acquired was this rimfire cartridge. I didn’t use a micrometer on it. Just estimated with a ruler on approximate size, so I could be off a little. I’m THINKING 32 rimfire, but I’m not sure.

Thanks for any info on this. I’m not a collector, nor have I ever handled a round like this before.

Corbin

Most likely a .32 Long rimfire.

When trying to ID a cartridge, the more dimensions you can give, the better. Case dimensions are more important than bullet diameter or cartridge length since bullets and OAL often vary quite a bit, even among cartridges of the same caliber.

As you’d expect, one photo is worth 1000 words.

Wouldn’t the diamond headstamp indicate Western?

I’d suggest you get a copy of “Cartridges of the World” (COTW). It has a great deal of basic information about, and dimensions of, most centerfire and rimfire ammunition you are likely to run into - current, obsolete, domestic, and foreign. You can probably locate an older edition cheap at eBay, Amazon, or Abe Books.
