November 13, 2009 - 8:54 AM
CHESTER — The state police bomb squad was called to a home in Chester Thursday after a fire destroyed the house and a suspicious device was found on site, police say.
Officials determined the device, said to include a timer, was a non-working replica of a bomb, according to Chester town police.
The fire broke out around 5:34 p.m. at 143 Bull Mill Road. No one was injured in the fire.
Fire damage was contained to a small area of the house but several large holes were burned in the floor between the first floor and the basement area. The remainder of the house suffered severe smoke damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
