North Vietnam Casing Find

Hello all
I am new to this forum. I have searched extensively online and could not seem find any real information on this casing i found while in Lang Son hills. Marking on head are:
4 - 83 (which could be the month and year, April - 1983)
VIS N - F ART

The casing is most likely a French Gras (11x60mmR) cartridge case manufactured in the 4th quarter of 1883. Not a surprise due to Frances heavy involvement in Vietnam during this time.

Yes, French, but perhaps 11x60R Gras?

Of course you are correct since the 8x50mmR Lebel first appeared in 1886!!! Typical mistake when I’m in a hurry, I have corrected my earlier post.

So it was manufactured in the 1883. So from the Tonkin war?

Seems that it could possibly be from the Tonkin war.
