Howdy , sorry its been petition time here and I have not been by in a awhile, I have another odd-ball Rem -UMC box this one marked 158 Grain Flat Point Lead Bullet box number 7638 .
just what type of bullets are these ??

This is listed in the catalogs as:

7638 .38 SPECIAL (COLT SPECIAL) 158 gr. FLAT POINT LEAD OIL PROOF, KLEANBORE

It was listed from 1947 to 1951 using that Load Index number.

The .38 Colt Special was introduced in 1909 and was last made by Remington in 1955. Initually, it was made at Colt’s request for their revolvers so they did not have to use “S&W”, their major rival, as the case type stamped on Colt guns. Also, Colt claimed the flat nosed bullet had greater “Stopping Power” than the standard round nose. They used this same style of bullet in their .32 & .38 New Police revolvers.
