This is the USS Marietta. It had 3 and 4 inch guns. The crew is holdling what I think is a 4 inch 40 shell. other opinions ?

#2

Ray will know. He’s 2nd from the left in the group pic. He looked so young then.

BA DUM… CLASH!!!

Gentlemen;

Check NavWeaps. It looks like a 4"/40 cartridge and mount.

I won’t make any other comment. I’m trying to make it for an entire week without a PM or email. Only six days to go.

I looked up USS Marietta in Wikipedia.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Marietta_(1864
It says: Armament: 2 × 11-inch (279 mm) smoothbore Dahlgren guns
I have a feeling I am looking at a wrong ship in the wrong time(frame). Merely trying to help. I know nothing of Navy, just a bunch of jokes about seamen.

OK, found the right ship.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Marietta_(PG-15
Armament: • 6 × 4 in (100 mm) guns
• 1 × 3 in (76 mm) gun
• 4 × 6-pounder guns
• 2 × 1-pounder guns
• 1 × machine gun
