Patruunan (JVA 0221) 7,62 KIV D166 suorituskyky

Does any one have details on this Finnish sniper ammo for the TKIV85 power charge, ballistics, OAL etc

0221 is not strictly “sniper ammo”… general issue rifle and MG ammo, heavy D166 bullet with low speed.
I’ve seen boxes from 2,6? to 3,0 gram of Vihtavuori RSO4N16 (=N140)

Ole

which ammo is the sniper grade ammo for the TKIV85 the manual says Kesällä tarkkuuspatruunan 7.62x53R D166 suorituskyky yltää maksimissaan 800m asti. Talvella lähtönopeuden laskiessa ja ballististen olosuhteiden huonontuessa maksimaalinen etäisyys on noin 700m. Hyvänä nyrkkisääntönä voi pitää nopeuden pysymistä yli 350 m/s. Lähellä äänennopeutta lento muuttuu epävakaaksi ja tarkkuus menetetään.

Aliääninopeuksiin kehitetyillä patruunoilla päästään kohtuulliseen tarkkuuteen vielä 250m etäisyydelle, mutta TAK-85 kiväärin tähtäinkiikarista loppuu korkeussäätö noin 125m etäisyydelle. Tuolloin on matka-arvona koro säädetty noin 800m asetukseen. Tämä tähtäimen arvo on aseyksilöstä riippuen vaihtelevaa ja käytettäessä aliäänipatruunoita on ne aina tarkkuutettava asekohtaisesti TA-tehtävän oletetuille etäisyyksille.

Taulukko on laadittu kevät-kesä-syksy ajanjaksolle, yli +/- 0°C lämpötiloihin.

have you got the load details

Don’t know more than 12 g D46 bullet and 795 m/s nominal v0 (compare to 13 g 700 m/s of D166 JVA 0221)
JVA 0221(+0222) and 0246 are the normal rounds used with Tkiv 85.
Tkiv 85 is limited to 53R cartridge with .308 bullets.

Ole

NB: my info may be outdated, so take it with a grain of salt… I’m now unsure if the current use Tkiv 85 uses .308 or .311 barrels?

but JVA 0221/0222 is least Lapua 13 gram D166 with 2,6?-3,0 gram of Vihtavuori N16.

Ole

To my surprise the Lapua catalog only lists hunting bullets for 7.62 x 53R, none of its numerous FMJ and Match bullets in .308.

Today, Lapua offers only the 7.8 mm (.308) diameter 12.0 g (185 gr) version of the D46 bullet. My assumption is that this version is used for the Tkiv 85.
In earlier Lapua reloading data the 12 g D46 muzzle velocity for the maximum charge of 3.02 g N140 is given as 780 m/s from a 660 mm barrel. This is in good agreement with Ole’s figure for a factory round.

Correcting myself: the only issued and approved ammunition for the Tkiv 85 is JVA 0221 And 0222 D166. The Tkiv have 0,310"/7,87 mm barrels.

The 0246 D46 was reserved for older reserve sniper rifles like the M28-76 with .308 barrels.

Thank you for the correction, Ole.

This may not be a 100% accurate translation, but:

"In the summer, the accuracy of the 7.62x53R D166 precision cartridge reaches up to 800m. In winter, when the initial speed drops and the ballistic conditions deteriorate, the maximum distance is about 700m. As a good rule of thumb, you can keep the speed above 350 m / s. Near the sound speed the flight becomes unstable and the accuracy is lost.

Cartridges developed for low-speed speeds reach a reasonable resolution of 250m away, but the TAK-85 rifle star spear ends with a height adjustment of about 125m. At that time there is a travel value of about 100m. This value of the target is varying depending on the human being, and when using the aliasing cartridges, they must always be accurately mapped to the assumed distances of the TA task.

The table is prepared for the spring-summer-autumn period over +/- 0 ° C."

well tried the D166 at 100mtrs today good grouping

No pictures? ;-)
