Picked up at Gun Show

#1

Didn’t see much of anything at the gun show. One dealer had a lot of ammo and was selling mainly as usable ammo. There were a few boxes I was interested in, but not the prices… I like to pay as usable ammo, not collectible. But I gave in on one box that was different from anything I have.

185 gr. silvertip-hollow point .45 auto

In searches, it appears they were put out in the '70’s. I have a Winchester Western primer box and shotshell boxes, but none in cartridges and this is the first 20 count box for me.

Nice box! I have one just like it with the Silvertips.

I have a .50 cal ammo can full of those back at my father’s house. A friend of his was a DEA agent back in the 1980’s and had all the ammunition he wanted for training and field work. As he put it, he would draw a case of ammo form the store room, shoot a few boxes and throw the rest behind the seat of his truck. One day, he gave me and my father a big box full of .45 ACP (Winchester Silvertips), .223 REM., .38 Spl. +P+ (LE only), etc…

The way we looked at it, we bought the ammo with our tax dollars…
