Pinfires are strange items to many people (okay, there are a few exceptions!).
While the general concept is fairly easy to understand, the mechanical details are seldom seen. Although the below items stretch our forum limits on guns and reloading topics, I think the details of at least one variation of pinfire ammunition construction and actual use will be of interest.
I don’t know if the tools shown are unique to this seller, or typical of those used in manufacture or reloading of pinfires in the past. In any case, it is obvious from the extra complications of aligning the pin when loading the gun, and the complexity of the cartridge why rimfire and centerfire cartridges made the pinfire obsolete (except as novelty items).
