A recent Shotgun News had a nice article by Paul Scarlata on the Prussian Needle guns.
Those and some other designs were all attempts to come up with a breech loading arm using a self contained cartridge with a combustible paper wrapper before the use of a metallic cartridge body was adopted.
There are drawings available of many of the various early self contained cartridges, but the drawings are a bit confusing.
Can anyone show us some SECTIONED cartridges for the Prussian Needle gun, French Chassepot and the U.S. Greene rifles?
Is anyone aware of a source for replica cartridges, or even newly made bullets of more or less correct shape so that a collector could “roll their own” for display purposes, or attempt to section some?
