SS 22's?

This is a partial box of 22 LR shot cartridges that are a bright finish and I am told they are stainless steel. Not reactive to a magnet and the h/s is ’ Hi Speed with a U in center’. Could these be stainless steel and how would I confirm this?

Probably nickel plated brass. Several manufacturers made/make 22 shot cartridges and many of them are nickel plated for some reason. Maybe just for looks?

You could take a pair of wire cutters and clip off the crimped tip and see what the case is made of.

I sacraficed 1 to the cutter gods and it seems to be nickle thru and thru, no brass or other color change. It is very soft so it is doubtful that it is steel. Is this an alloy of nickle and something else?
