Super-X 300 Savage cannelure question

Has the cannelure in the middle anything to do with the fact that it is a hollow point?

Appears to be the “typical” (Western Cartridge Co.)…i.e. Super-X, Open Point Expanding bullet, loaded in many calibers beginning in the middle 1920’s. The unique cannelure signified the OPE bullet. Throughout the years, it appears in different height positions, relative to the case mouth.
