The most famous black powder explosion

#1

In 1687, a shell from a Venetian ship cannon landed inside the Parthenon and blew up a black powder storage installed there by Turks who occupied Greece. Most of the building was destroyed in the explosion. Ever since then cartridge collectors around the world were trying to picture themselves how this magnificent building looked in its intact state. Luckily, there is THE ONLY full scale replica of it in Nashville, TN, complete with the statue of the goddess herself. Long live Athena!!!

sksvlad,

it’s really interesting…I didn’t know about the existence of a Partenone copy in the USA!

All the best
