What is the earliest documented use of a U.P.C. (Universal Product Code) on a box of ammo? The earliest it could be is 1974. Here is a quote from a Wilipedia article:
In June of 1974, the first U.P.C. scanner was installed at a Marsh’s supermarket in Troy, Ohio. The first product to have a bar code included was a packet of Wrigley’s gum
It appears Winchester started using U.P.C.'s in 1988. How about Remington, CCI, Federal, etc.
