Do the stars at 3 and 9 O’clock have any significance?

Hi Paul,

I think they may indicate a case manufactured using a simplified process based on Leslie E. Hooker’s patents, like those found in .30 Model 1906 ball cartridges from 1918-19. According to the latest USCCo headstamp checklists I have seen, it is not known to exist in other calibers.

This headstamp is illustrated for the first time in ads from 1922 introducing the “Improved” hunting load:
